Mar 05, 2008 Mannlicher-Schoenauer Dating. There is a reliable way to date a Mannlicher-Schoenauer, at least on the commercial versions. I do not know if the military versions have the same proof requirements, and this data ONLY applies to Austrian Mannlichers, not the Breda ones. On the underside of the chamber you will find a number series like this 122345.19. I pulled the stock of my 'new-to-me' Mannlicher with the hope of dating the gun. (I was surprised to find that a comprehensive code of serial numbers and dates did not exist for the commercial sporters, but hoped I'd find an internal date on the gun.) I knew the gun was post-1912 based on the proofs.
